How percentage formulas work
Percentage of a number
To find 20% of 50: (20 ÷ 100) × 50 = 10.
What percent is X of Y
To find what percent 15 is of 60: (15 ÷ 60) × 100 = 25%.
Percent change
Going from 50 to 65 is a change of ((65 − 50) ÷ 50) × 100 = 30% increase. A negative result means a decrease.
Multiply the number by the percentage, then divide by 100. For example, 20% of 50 is (20/100) × 50 = 10.
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 15 out of 60 is (15/60) × 100 = 25%.
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease.
